Amanda Schott has been the chief dangster of her craft business dang argyle since 2005, where she block prints her own fabric and then sews up cute bags. With a passion for craft and the Michigan craft community, she's a fixture in the Metro Detroit craft scene, and you'll find her and her sewn goods at local craft fairs a few times a year. She has a degree in Elementary Education and for her full time job she's a bit of a children's librarian, where she loves nerding out about books, working with puppets, and teaching hands-on craft workshops for all ages. This may be why she loves helping lead silly chants around the campfire at Craft-A-Way camp each year. dangargyle.blogspot.com Amy Cronkite is known for her love of place and attention to detail. From the Detroit Urban Craft Fair to Small Craft, Amy has spent the past thirteen years working to keep Detroit's gatherings as strange and beautiful as its crafts. At Craft-Away-Camp, we find her working in her natural habitat: the Michigan outdoors. I'm Katie of make.do.studio and I’m a full-time ceramicist and woodworker making and residing in Hazel Park, Michigan. I like to consider myself a modern cave girl, and much of my work is reflective of what you might find in such a girl's cave—minimal, functional and decorative handmade works created with clay, wood and abundant good vibes. I am my happiest when I’m creating simple, beautiful things to celebrate your home and decorate your dwelling. When I’m not working with clay, you can find me (still covered in dust and dirt) hustling in the woodshop, designing spaces, riding my motorcycle or throwing the frisbee to my doggo Earl. katiebramlage.com/ Marcy Davy is a printmaker, seasoned camper, former girl scout and served as the creative arts director at a summer camp many moons ago. She can also toast a perfect marshmallow. She has been producing a bi-annual line of screen printed art & housewares under the name All Things Grow since 2007. Michigan born & bred, she holds degrees in Design & Art Education from Central & Eastern Michigan University respectively. She and her husband call Ypsilanti home but sneak up north as often as possible to dip their toes in Lake Michigan and sleep under the stars. marcydavy.com |
Get Twiggy with It Wrap a foraged twig with a variety of materials to create a wrapped twig necklace! It's a way to hone those stick wrapping skills on a dainty level while creating a wearable piece of mixed-media art. Basket Case We will work with some beautiful Michigan-made baskets to create a one of a kind vessel for not only holding all our crafts we make over the course of the weekend, but to add a pop of color and fun to wherever you use it after camp is long over. We will embellish the baskets with paint, yarn, embroidery floss, pom poms, tassels, macrame, and found objects. Peg, It will Come Back to You This throwback workshop will be fun take on the time honored craft of cross stitch, except this time around we’re scaling up and getting wild. Introducing the use of the infamously inane organizational material, pegboard, we’re breaking tradition and looking at things in a new way. Pattern design and development as well as color study will be some of the key takeaways in this new school version of ya mommas’ craft. Block Party In this workshop we will explore the process of designing a pattern and mock up fun camp-inspired designs. Next we will carve our designs in linoleum blocks before printing on hand-dyed bandanas and easy summery no-sew infinity scarves. By the end of the workshop you will have two unique camp fashions and the blocks to take home for use on your favorite paper or fabric. |
